Welcome Letter from the Executive Director The mission of Cheyenne Mountain Charter Academy and The Vanguard School is to help guide students in the development of their character and academic potential through academically rigorous, content-rich educational programs. Cheyenne Mountain Charter Academy (CMCA) is a K-12 public charter school located in Colorado Springs, CO. Founded in 1995 by several parents who were interested in a more rigorous curriculum, CMCA has continued to provide excellence in education in a safe, structured environment by adhering to the tenets of its founders.
In grades K-8, CMCA utilizes Direct Instruction and the Core Knowledge® curriculum to achieve student mastery. Students are taught in a fast paced, highly interactive, teacher-directed manner and are expected to learn specific facts and skills at each grade level. In grades 9-12, students build upon their knowledge and develop critical thinking skills by taking honors and AP level classes that prepare them for college and beyond. The onus for student achievement is placed squarely on the school. There is a high level of accountability for teachers and other staff because we firmly believe that if the student has not learned, then the teacher has not taught. |
